Classics and Ancient History

Classics and Ancient History is an incredibly rich and varied subject. It embraces every aspect of not only the Greek and Roman civilisations, but also the early civilisations of Egypt and the Ancient Near East. This makes it a great meeting-point of other subjects - literature, drama, history, politics, philosophy, art, social science, religion, to name just a few. Students are typically imaginative, versatile and open-minded: studying Classics and Ancient History means learning to bring these other disciplines together, to approach questions from more than one angle, to be independent and reflective, and to take nothing for granted!
